The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee presents:
Virtual Book Club Discussion:
Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza
by Gloria E. Anzaldúa
Please join us to discuss the Mexican-American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ identity in America historically and today.  This conversation will discuss the history of racism and discrimination in American public and political life, the impact that has had on these communities, and the policies we can support to promote equality.  Published in 1987, Gloria Anzaldúa built upon her experience as a Chicana, a lesbian, an activist, and a writer to write essays and poems that profoundly challenged, and continue to challenge, how we think about identity. Borderlands / La Frontera remaps our understanding of what a "border" is, presenting it as a psychic, social, and cultural terrain that we inhabit, and that inhabits all of us.  The book comprises several poems and essays in English and Spanish.

We encourage anyone to attend even if they are not able to read the entire book, or any part at all.  IPLAC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Co-Chair Caleb Norris will facilitate this conversation along with other members of the DE&I Committee.
